The 60 ton bridge with its span of over 32½ metres is formed by two, approximately 20 metre high, curved wooden trusses. The trusses consist of curved and wrenched wooden push and pull bars that are maximum 1.080mm x 1.200mm long.
The curved trusses are connected at the top with a hinged connection by means of a steel connecting hinge. The bridge deck hangs between the trusses. The bridge deck is completed by two giant wooden laminated Accoya® girders of maximum 1,080 mm x 1,400 mm x 32½ metres in length. All of the wood used is from Accoya®. The finishing coat has a light pigmented wood-stain in order to prevent molding. The service life is over 80 years with a maintenance cycle that is comparable to steel bridges.

“If you conduct research of the typical location-specific characteristics of bridges in Sneek, you will find a few that are like water, wooden boats, and farms.
That combined with our love for wood, workmanship, and durable construction, the combination is easily made, in which the ‘choices’ fuse together in order to become one material: wood. The inspiration for the well-known ‘covered bridges‘ in relation to the requirement of the Dutch government to realize bridges with a minimal service life of 80 years, led us to select Accoya. With this we realized the first 'uncovered bridge’.
The first ever 60 ton ’uncovered bridge’ in the world, which is ’covered‘ by Accoya®!”
